Tomas Tatar returns to action after missing Tuesday’s game with the flu. He will not be joined by Andrew Shaw or Paul Byron, however, as the two wingers remain out of the lineup with injury.

That puts Montreal at a bit of a disadvantage as the team hosts the Jets tonight, relying instead on more replacement-level options to fill out the lineup, but it remains one that can handle itself against opponents, even one ranked as highly as the Jets.

Tatar isn’t taking his typical spot on the top line, but rather slotting in beside Max Domi as the coaching staff wants to see where the experiment of Jonathan Drouin and Brendan Gallagher as a duo can lead after seeing some encouraging chemistry brewing. Such an alignment provides more balance to the forward lines, and is therefore something worth continuing to investigate.

The Canadiens can be encouraged by the fact that the normally stingy Jets have given up three goals in each of their previous six games, so the offence will be there if they can find it. With Carey Price rarely surrendering that many during his current run, the path to victory is laid out for tonight’s contest.
