Bulldogs tie game late, but lose in a shootout in Abbotsford

The Hamilton Bulldogs were defeated by the Abbotsford Heat 2-1 on Wednesday night, the second game of a double header between the two teams. The Bulldogs have now lost 3 straight.

The Heat opened the scoring for the second straight game, at 12:55 when Dustin Sylvester finished off a nice passing play by snapping a shot over Cedrick Desjardins‘ shoulder on the powerplay. Both games first goals were scored on the powerplay, a major concern for the Bulldogs. The shots were 11-8 for Abbotsford after the first, a slight improvement for the Bulldogs who only totalled 15 shots on Tuesday night.

The second period ended scoreless, with the Bulldogs outshooting the heat 10-5.

Early in the third period, the Bulldogs finally got on the board. Alexander Avtsin skated down the wing and put a shot on net that was stopped by Danny Taylor, but the rebound bounced out in front to Philippe Lefebvre who put it past the Heat goalie.

The game continued to be tight checking, resulting in the rest of the third, and overtime being scoreless. In the shootout, the Heat jumped to a quick 2-0 lead, but the Bulldogs climbed back to tie it on goals by Nathan Beaulieu and Mark Isherwood. Tyler Ruegsegger sealed the deal for the Heat scoring on their final try and winning the game.

The Bulldogs take the ice again on Saturday night at home when the Marlies come into town.
