Bulldogs sign Erik Nystrom and Stefan Chaput

There were rumours for the last couple of weeks that Erik Nystrom was going to come over to North America and play for the Bulldogs this season, but it was surprising when he actually left the Allsvenskan to do it. Even more surprising is that he isn’t on a full contract, but instead a 25 game pro tryout similar to what Darryl Boyce was given last year.

Nystrom was taken in the 6th round, 154th overall by the Canadiens in their epic 2012 NHL Entry Draft. After ripping it up in the Swedish U20 league, he was promoted to the Allsvenskan where he put up nearly the same production as Sebastian Collberg.

Also signed today was Stefan Chaput, who was called up to the Bulldogs last season from the ECHL’s Wheeling Nailers after the injury bug struck. Chaput was given loads of ice time and opportunity on the powerplay, but he never really produced that much. A 25 year old Montreal native, Chaput has bounced around the AHL the last 5 seasons, playing on 5 different teams. He was signed to a one year, two way (AHL/ECHL) deal.
