Montreal Canadiens 5th round pick from the 2010 NHL Entry draft Brendan Gallagher has been named to the Western conference team for the AHL All-Star game in Providence, Rhode Island on January 27-28.
Gallagher has been the Bulldogs’ most dangerous forward for most of the year, although a recent surge by Gabriel Dumont has put him second in team scoring.
Gallagher has 10 goals and 10 assists for 20 points in 36 games for the Bulldogs, and is currently competing for a roster spot on the Montreal Canadiens.
Gallagher also leads all rookie AHLers in shots with 117, which is a likely hint to increased goal scoring in his future. I don’t believe that Gallagher is an 8.5% shooter at the AHL level.
Depending on the Canadiens situation, Gallagher may not even play in the All-Star game. It’s possible that he gets a taste of NHL action if he has really impressed Michel Therrien in training camp.
The 5’7″ right winger has already made a name for himself in the AHL for his penchant for crashing the net. He plays with no fear in a similar style to one of my favourite players ever, Theoren Fleury.
Gallagher is the only Bulldog to make the All-Star game.
