It seemed to only be a matter of time after Jarred Tinordi was given the least amount of ice time he’s seen this season in the win against Boston, but the young defender is now back with the Bulldogs. Tinordi finishes his 6 game tryout with the Canadiens with 1 assist, a +2 rating and a 63.1% Fenwick in sheltered minutes.
Tinordi was far superior to what I expected him to be at the age of 21. The 6’6″ defenseman displayed smooth skating, good hockey sense, and even some offensive instincts that you wouldn’t expect. He’ll be back with the Habs before we know it.
For now though, it looks like Yannick Weber will be taking his place as he comes off the injured list. Weber has managed to draw into just two games this season, getting injured midway through the second one. Weber should add some increased scoring ability to the second wave of the powerplay, although he’ll likely be stuck with Francis Bouillon.
Gabriel Dumont has also been sent down after an 8 game stint where he didn’t look out of place, accumulating 2 assists and an even rating with a 66.7% Fenwick in fairly difficult minutes. Dumont’s hustle and strength along the boards made for an impressive call up. It’s curious that he’s the one sent down and not Mike Blunden.
The reason Dumont was sent down though, is the best news of the day. Brandon Prust is finally ready to play. No one is more excited about that than him, I’d wager. Prust will play on a line with Lars Eller and Alex Galchenyuk, against his former team with the Rangers come to town on Saturday.
Prust’s return couldn’t have come at a better time, as I’ll have his half season review out later today. As a bit of a preview, I will say that Prust has been far more impressive than anyone could have predicted.
