The formula for the skills competition has been tweaked over the years, adding technological advancement and new events. Last year some of the best women in the sport were brought in, and they provided some of the top moments of the 2019 Skills Competition. This year, they’ll take more of a starring role, playing a three-on-three tournament during the proceedings.

Fastest Skater
Eight players receive one timed lap around the rink in their direction of choice. At the end, the one with the fastest time walks away with the prize money.

Save Streak
The only event for goaltenders, they will face a team of nine shooters from one opposing division on breakaways, attempting to stop everything they face. Should a save be made on the ninth shooter — the division captain — the order will repeat until a goal is scored. The goaltender posting the longest save streak will be declared the winner, with total number of saves serving as the tie break.

Accuracy Shooting
Players stand 25 feet from the net, and shoot at images that appear on an LED screen. The clock stopped when all targets on the display have been hit.

Elite Women’s 3-on-3
Some of the top women from Canada and the U.S. will go head-to-head in a game lasting two 10-minute periods of running time, with penalties resulting in penalty shots. The women have all been participating in Dream Gap Tour events after the CWHL was shuttered after last season, ready to put on a show for the crowd.

Players fire a puck as hard as they can into an empty net. Each participant gets two shots during this event, with the player with the highest recorded speed being named the winner.

The night ends with a new event, with players standing on a platform 30 feet above the ice surface and trying to hit various targets. Each participant gets sevne shots, with targets worth different values.
