Team Canada got off to a hot start on the first day of the World Juniors. Denmark had no answer for the likes of Morgan Frost, Maxime Comtois, and Cody Glass in a 14-0 drubbing on Wednesday, as 19 of the 21 players — including goaltender Mikey DiPietro — had points in the game. The team will be raring to get back in action tonight.
They’ll line up against a Swiss team that looked overmatched in their opener versus the Czech Republic in the first period, but found their legs in the final two, and took last year’s fourth-place finisher to overtime to earn what could end up being an important point.
The Swiss won’t survive a slow start today versus Canada, so they’ll need to hit the ground running when the puck drops. There is a decent amount of offensive creativity to be found among Switzerland’s skaters. As long as they can stay defensively sound, they may be able to get a few counter-punch chances the other way.
Canada will be heavily favoured to run their record to 2-0 today, but you can never count out the Swiss at the World Juniors.
