Montreal Canadiens Links

  • Tickets for the 2014-15 season are now available! Buy them either from the Bell Centre or from a ticket broker. [Canadiens]
  • Is it time to move on from Francis Bouillon, to give younger defencemen like Nathan Beaulieu and Jarred Tinordi more ice-time? [A Winning Habit]
  • Back in July, GM Marc Bergevin singled out three prospects who could potentially crack the team’s opening roster in October. Check out how the trio of Jiri Sekac, Jacob de La Rose, and Sven Andrighetto are doing in Brossard right now. [Canadiens]
  • If you were wondering where Nikita Scherbak went on the first day of camp, he’s sick from the flu. (French article) [La Presse]
  • Meanwhile, prospect Michael McCarron admits that he wasn’t in the best of shape last year, when he only scored 34 points in 66 games in the OHL. (French article, but video is in English) [RDS]
  • EOTP made our own comprehensive report on rookie camp, including quotes and videos of the players. [EOTP]
  • Sunday Habs Throwback: In honour of Guy Lapointe, watch this old TV segment about his career. The narrator has the best old timey Canadian accent I’ve ever heard. It sounds like a bucket of pucks being tossed around by two lumberjacks.

Around the League and Elsewhere

  • The Chicago Blackhawks have a problem with their AHL team. But in classic post-’07 Hawks style, their problem is being bogged down by (get this) too many good prospects. [Blackhawk Up]
  • The Detroit Red Wings have an organisational policy of acclimatising players in the AHL before letting them into the big show. But they may be about to make an exception for the exceptional 19 year old Anthony Mantha, who could jump straight in from the QMJHL. [NHL]
  • California hockey is alive and healthy, and not just at the NHL-level. Youth and “grass-roots” hockey programs are growing in popularity every year. [Ducks of a Feather]
  • Speaking of which, Joe Thornton is quite good at hockey and deserves more hype. [The Hockey Writers]
  • Meanwhile, teams in “traditional” milieus are struggling a little more. But the Calgary Flames may look forward to their bright future, as prospect Johnny Gaudreau shines at the Young Stars Tournament. Watch the Vine of his highlight reel goal, it’s filthy. [CBC]
