Wednesday Habs Links: Are you pumped for the season to begin?

Montreal Canadiens Links

  • EOTP has got you covered for tonight’s game. We have a preview of the forwards, preview of the defense, an evaluation of Bergevin’s moves as a GM, a salary cap visualization – everything you need to know for the new season. Read our entire storystream to catch up. [EOTP]
  • Looking a bit closer at the roster – get to know Jarred Tinordi a bit better through this Gazette feature. His enormous 6-foot-6 frame is both an asset and a liability. [Montreal Gazette]
  • (French) Jacob de la Rose was sent to Hamilton, bringing the roster down to 23. Therrien comment that they were happy with his training camp and pre-season performance, but cuts have to be made. [RDS]
  • (French) 10 questions for the Canadiens and the NHL in 2014-15. Love this part: “Question 5 – Who will be the most useful player?” The answers were unanimously Carey Price. [La Presse]
  • It’s not all about the new players – players like Peter Budaj and Francis Bouillon have played for the Habs for years, and just because they’re gone doesn’t mean that they should be forgotten. [Canadiens]

  • EOTP’s own Andrew Berkshire did a radio hit for TSN 1260 Edmonton, talking about the Habs. Listen here. [TSN Radio]
  • Michel Therrien is getting mellow in his old age, becoming “calmer and gentler”. Or at least for now he is. We’ll see how the season plays out. [Montreal Gazette]

Around the League and Elsewhere

  • Brian Gionta will be the new captain of the Buffalo Sabres (and rightly so). Josh Gorges and Matt Moulson will wear the “A”. [NHL]
  • Know thy enemy: Steve Dangle’s season preview for the Toronto Maple Leafs. [Pension Plan Puppets]
  • So thanks to Kyle Dubas, are the Leafs about to become an analytics-based powerhouse? He has this vision for the team: “I know we want to be a team that plays with more skill and makes more plays, exits our zone with control, enters the opposition’s zone with control. I think that lends itself to more shots and more offense” [NHL]
  • Meanwhile, in the front office: Dave Nonis and Brendan Shanahan say they’re comfortable with each other. I’d believe it more if the NHL feature image of the two doesn’t have them giving each other a shady side-eye. Interestingly, Kyle Dubas mentions that the two aren’t always welcoming to players whom Dubas found worth pursuing. [NHL]
  • Alex Ovechkin’s adorable date with a 10 year old called Ann Schaab. “[Ann] came with the Washington Ice Dogs, a team for developmentally disabled individuals, and once, when an Ovechkin pass found her stick, Ann skated over and invited him to her house, proposing to eat sushi and play kickball.” [Washington Post]
