1933: The Habs purchased goaltender Wilf Cude from Philadelphia (CAHL).
1950: Rookie goaltender Gerry McNeil recorded his second career shutout and Maurice Richard scored twice in the Canadiens‘ 4-0 win over the New York Rangers in Montreal.
1957: Maurice Richard became the first player in NHL history to score 500 career goals. It came in his 863rd career game as the Canadiens beat the Chicago Blackhawks, 3-1. Here’s Red Fisher’s recollection of the goal on the 50th anniversary (2007).
1963: Montreal goaltender Gump Worsley recorded his 25th career shutout in the Canadiens 2-0 win over the Boston Bruins , at the Forum. It was Worsley’s first shutout with Montreal.
1967: Worsley recorded his 30th career shutout in the Canadiens’ 1-0 win over the Toronto Maple Leafs. Yvan Cournoyer scored the goal in the 1st period.
1983: Montreal’s Mats Naslund scored twice and added three assists as the Canadiens won 12-2 against the Winnipeg Jets.
1991: Roland Melanson recorded a shutout in his first NHL start in three years, a 22 save 1-0 win for Montreal, against the Philadelphia Flyers. It was Melanson’s 5th career shutout (and his first with the Canadiens).
Habs born on this day: Hall of Famer Roy Worters (1900) The 5’3″ Worters was loaned to the Habs by the New York Americans to fill in for George Hainsworth in a game against the Leafs on Feb 27, 1930. Leo Gaudreault (1905).
