The Montreal Canadiens announced Thursday morning that they have signed their 2013 first-round pick Michael McCarron a three-year entry-level contract.
McCarron had 5 goals and 5 assists in 19 games with the U.S. National Development team last year, and led the team in penalty minutes in both his seasons with the program.
In 7 games with the US under 18 team, McCarron scored 3 goals and added 4 assists, and is an early favourite to make the U.S. WJC team next December.
McCarron recently attended the Canadiens development camp, and received glowing reviews from several sources. His skating, which was his apparent weakness, seems to have developed into somewhat of a strength.
McCarron was impressed with the level of devotion of Habs fans, noting: “The fans in Montreal are the best. Coming out to watch a development camp game cheering loud and proud… Can’t get much better than that”

MONTREAL – The Montreal Canadiens announced the signing of Michael McCarron to a three-year entry-level contract on Thursday morning.
The Canadiens’ first selection at the 2013 NHL Entry Draft, No.25 overall, McCarron had five goals, 10 points and a plus-1 differential in 19 games with the United States National Team Development Program in 2012-13. In each of his two seasons with the USNTDP, the 6-foot-5, 228-pound winger has led his team in penalty minutes per game.
The Macomb, MI native participated in the Canadiens’ development camp from July 3-7 and will continue his career in the Junior ranks with the OHL’s London Knights in 2013-14.
