Sven Andrighetto, Christian Thomas each score twice in IceCaps home opener

It was an impressive home opener for the St. John’s IceCaps. Sven Andrighetto and Christian Thomas each scored a pair, while Zach Fucale stopped 31 of 33 in his professional hockey debut.

Andrighetto got the ball rolling by finishing a three-way passing play with Bud Holloway and Charles Hudon

The Holloway-Hudon-Andrighetto trio would strike early into the second following a fantastic series of plays by Hudon to both obtain possession and regain possesion. Hudon would hit the post on his shot attempt, but Andrighetto was there to deposit the rebound.

From there, Christian Thomas took over the reins. The speedy forward was sprung on a breakaway by Mark Barberio, and made no mistake with a well-placed shot.

Thomas tallied another in the third period, whacking the puck out of mid-air to beat the goaltender.

Thomas had an opportunity to complete the hat trick as the clock ticked away, but hammered a chance in tight off the post.

The IceCaps return to action tomorrow night, once again facing the Rochester Americans. In the mean time, keep an eye out for our game recap in the morning.
