Stefan Matteau suspended one game by the AHL

St. John’s IceCaps forward Stefan Matteau has been suspended for one game by the American Hockey League for a spearing incident against the Syracuse Crunch on Tuesday night.

Matteau has not had a great season thus far for the IceCaps, leading the team in penalty minutes with 48 minutes in 19 games. He has scored six goals and three assists, however several of those goals were in empty nets.

To replace Matteau, the IceCaps have recalled Mathieu Corderre-Gagnon from the Brampton Beast from the ECHL. He is the final AHL and NHL contracted forward playing in the ECHL for the Beast.

It is not certain that Gagnon will play on Wednesday for the IceCaps, as there are 13 other forwards besides Matteau on the team, however David Broll was said to be injured yesterday, and Bobby Farnham’s status is uncertain.

Matteau was acquired at the trade deadline last season from the New Jersey Devils.
