IceCaps weekend preview: St. John’s hosts Albany in North Division battle

The St. John’s IceCaps will play host to the Albany Devils tonight and tomorrow night, marking the final two games of their six-game home stand.

Albany hits The Rock coming off back-to-back loses, but still find themselves in second place in the North Division and two spots ahead of the IceCaps. The teams have met on five occasions so far this season, with the Devils having the upper hand, winning four of the five contests.

Albany is lead offensively by two rookies. First round pick, John Quenneville has 37 points through 48 games, and Blake Coleman has 33 points in 47 games. Between the pipes, they carry three net-minders. Two of the three are former Canadian world juniors; Scott Wedgewood and Mackenzie Blackwood. The third is Memorial Cup Champion, Ken Appleby. Appleby and Blackwood have seen the majority of action this season.

Chris Terry will be looking to extend his point streak to six games for St. John’s. Terry has five goals and three assists over that span. His points-per-game is second best across the AHL, at 1.31.

Charles Hudon has also had a hot hand as of late, with five goals and four assists over his last seven games.

Recently acquired defenceman, Keegan Lowe, will be looking to make his IceCaps debut. Lowe was acquired in a minor league trade, which sent Philip Samuelsson to the Charlotte Checkers.
