IceCaps Game Recap: St. John’s snaps losing streak with win in Binghamton

Coming off three straight loses (two of which during the current road trip) the St. John’s IceCaps were looking to bounce back into the win column when they played the Binghamton Senators on Tuesday night.

The visitors got just the start they were looking for. A mere 59 seconds into the game, Nikita Scherbak beat Sens starter Chris Driedger with a bullet of a shot. Charles Hudon picked up an assist on the play.

In the second period, Senators forward Jake Rodewald beat Charlie Lindgren to tie the game at 1-1.

The IceCaps would retake the lead late in the period. Fourth-liner,David Broll knocked home his first of the season after a scramble in front. Brett Lernout and Mark MacMillan picked up the assists.

Stefan Matteau extended the IceCaps lead to 3-1 early in the third. He fired a slap shot from the top of the left circle that beat Driedger over his left shoulder. The shot was actually so hard it went through the netting, and needed a review once play had halted to count. Jacob de la Rose and Michael McCarron picked up the assists.

Charles Hudon put the game out of reach less than two minutes later. His league-leading ninth goal of the season put the IceCaps up 4-1. Barberio picked up his second assist of the game on the goal, and is now second in the AHL among defencemen in total points.

From there, Lindgren shut the door, making 14 saves in the third period alone.

The IceCaps are back in action on Friday night when they clash with the Rochester Americans, before heading to Toronto on Saturday for a matchup with the Marlies.
