IceCaps Player of the Week: Michael McCarron
An outstanding rookie campaign continues for the 6’6” forward, as he posted four goals over a two-game span against Albany this week. He kicked off his dominant series with the game-winning goal in a 3-2 victory over the Albany Devils, and followed that up with his second career hat trick the following night in a 5-1 win.
For his extraordinary performance this year, McCarron was called up to Montreal for their road trip and made his debut in a 6-2 loss to the Dallas Stars. Despite it being his first professional game, he had a good net-front presence and caused havoc for the Stars defense.

Charles Hudon: After an outstanding debut Hudon was designated as the Habs 13th forward with Torrey Mitchell returning from injury. Shortly after he was returned to the IceCaps.
Lucas Lessio: Acquired mid-week in a trade for Christian Thomas, the former Coyotes prospect found the scoresheet in his first game with St. John’s, an assist on McCarron’s 11th goal of the year.
Daniel Carr: It’s looking more and more like we may never see Carr in the AHL again, as he notched two goals with the Habs this week.
Sven Andrighetto: Much like Hudon the young forward found himself in the press box for a bit this past week. With Devante Smith-Pelly slated to return we may see Andrighetto returned to the AHL, as well.
Christian Thomas: The speedy sniper was traded to the Arizona Coyotes for Lucas Lessio.
Mark Barberio: After enduring a rough patch following a return from injury, the veteran blue-liner posted a goal and an assist in two games against Albany. With twenty points on the year, Barberio sits in a tie for fifth place in scoring amongst AHL defensemen.
Mac Bennett: The second-year blue-liner was a healthy scratch in both games for St. John’s.
Bud Holloway: The veteran forward recorded just a single assist on the week, though with McCarron’s goal-scoring outburst it didn’t impact the team negatively. Holloway still remains in the top ten for overall scoring in the AHL despite he recent production slump.
Gabriel Dumont: The IceCaps captain kept up his recent trend of production, grabbing one assist on a Joel Hanley goal against Albany.
Joel Hanley: The off-season signing continues to cement his place in the IceCaps lineup with solid defensive play and offensive output. He notched his second goal of the year in a 5-1 victory over Albany.
Brett Lernout: The rookie rearguard did not record any points in back-to-back games.
Connor Crisp: The young forward is currently shelved with an injury.
Darren Dietz: It was another productive week for Dietz with an assist recorded in both games against Albany. The recent uptick in production is welcomed in a lineup sorely needing another producer from the blue line.
Morgan Ellis: In a weird trend, Ellis seems to mirror his defensive partner Barberio’s production. The veteran defenseman recorded two points (both assists) in two games played.
Jacob de la Rose: After a solid week — his first of the season — it would appear the Swedish forward is back on the injured list for the time being.
Nikita Scherbak: The rookie forward is still on the injured list, but is expected back in January.
Jeremy Grégoire: The two-way forward is having a quietly effective season in the IceCaps bottom six, he recorded a single assist on Mark MacMillan’s third goal of the year.
Mark MacMillan: Since being called up from the ECHL, the North Dakota product has been outstanding in a bottom-six role. This past week he opened the scoring against Albany on a nifty goal just 1:45 into the game.
Markus Eisenschmid: The German rookie is on the injured list for the time being.
Tim Bozon: It’s tough going for Bozon right now who was once again held without a point in two games played.
Michael Bournival: Easily the biggest boost to the IceCaps right now has been Bournival. With good speed and playmaking ability he has bolstered a weakened IceCaps top six. He recorded a pair of assists and was inches from his first goal of the season, but rang the shot off the crossbar.
Dustin Tokarski: Despite his best efforts Tokarski only recorded one win with the Canadiens, a 3-1 victory over the Ottawa Senators.
Zachary Fucale: After a shaky start it would appear that Zach Fucale has found his game and remains the incumbent starter in St. John’s. In his lone start he turned away 44 of 46 shots in a 3-2 IceCaps win.

After a poor showing the previous week, St. John’s dominated against Albany. A pair of victories over their divisional rival brought them into a tie for second place in the division, albeit with one more game played overall.

The IceCaps are currently on an extended break until Boxing Day when they’ll face the rival Toronto Marlies on the 26th and 27th of December. The Marlies remain one of the hottest teams in the AHL and lead the IceCaps by an astounding 13 points going into the break. Taking any points would be a major positive for this St. John’s club.
