Shea Weber returns to practice, Brendan Gallagher sits out

Just days after the Montreal Canadiens announced that defenceman Shea Weber would be out four to six weeks with a sprained ankle, he returned to practice with his teammates.

It is quite a turnaround for Weber, but just because he takes to the ice does not mean he is ready to return to game action although rehabbing an ankle sprain by skating on it doesn’t seem likely either so he may be closer than the initial injury timeline.

The team also announced that Brendan Gallagher, who left Saturday’s game briefly, missed practice due to a therapy day. Gallagher was not made available to the media on Saturday after the game because he was receiving treatment.

Jonathan Drouin and Nate Thompson, who missed Saturday’s game, we’re back at practice as well. Paul Byron also took shifts on a regular line.

The Canadiens play in Detroit on Tuesday night as they try and solve the Red Wings puzzle that has given them fits this season. They also play the Washington Capitals and Ottawa Senators on the road this week.
