Montreal Canadiens sign Eric Gelinas to PTO

Enrico Ciccone reports that the Montreal Canadiens have signed defenceman Eric Gelinas to a professional try out and that he will be at the team’s training camp.

UPDATE: It has been confirmed

Gelinas played in 27 NHL games last season with the Colorado Avalanche, earning one assist. He also played in 27 AHL games with the San Antonio Rampage, earning three goals and nine assists.

The Ottawa, Ontario native was previously with the New Jersey Devils. He has played 189 NHL games in his career, scoring 14 goals and adding 41 assists. His best year offensively was 2013-14 when he had seven goals and 22 assists in 60 games.

He is a left-handed shot and will add some depth to the Canadiens NHL requirements on defence for the pre-season. He could also be an additional veteran for the Laval Rocket should the team want to sign him to a contract.
