Canadiens vs Senators second period thread

The first period got off to a slow start, with only 3 combined shot attempts by both teams (2-1 for the Habs) within the first five minutes played. As the ice opened up, the Habs were again coming out as the stronger team with a 6-0 lead in shots by the 8 minute of the first, but no goals. The Senators got their first shot on goal at the 8:55 mark of the first period and promptly turned up the heat on the Habs, earning their second powerplay of the game in the process. The Habs killed it and got back to work 5 on 5, continuing to limit the Senators’ chances. The good work paid off when Max Pacioretty kept the puck in the offensive zone and it ended up on Tomas Plekanec’s stick who fed Greg Pateryn for a one-timer, which was blocked by Brendan Gallagher and went on a hyperbolic transit through the air as he tracked it down and tipped it in for his first goal of the series.

The Senators came back hot, firing off 5 shot attempts in the span of 51 seconds, including a post-to-post one-timer from the face-off dot by Kyle Turris that Price saved with the tip of his stick. The Habs turned it up the ice when they could and put pressure to Craig Anderson who saw 13 shots on 17 shot attempts, with the Canadiens getting most of their shots through tonight, compared to Friday when they only got half through (46 for 82 attempts).
