First, I want to wish good luck both to the newcomers, and to those who have left the Canadiens. I want to give a special farewell to the Dutch Gretzky. When you are talking about offensive expectations, you can’t forget to mention Dale Weise, who outperformed such expectations in spades this year.
Well, now that our hopes of making the playoffs are essentially nil, Michel Therrien is starting to trust the kids. For a bit there it looked like this might spoil the tank, as the Canadiens took seven out of eight available points last week. Then of course, there was the debacle against the Sharks the other night.
Let’s take a look at last week’s numbers:

Pace stats are projected over a full year of hockey (82 games).
Galchenyuk and Gallagher are continuing their good work. Galchenyuk is slightly below a 25-goal pace, but looks more and more dangerous every night. Conversely, Max Pacioretty scored twice in the last game, but is still far from his 37 expected goals.
Sven Andrighetto is beginning to see more ice time, which coincidentally led to a boost in his shooting pace. Hopefully things will continue that way as he tries to earn a permanent spot in the lineup.
Tomas Fleischmann and Dale Weise are both gone, and it is likely thanks to them exceeding expectations that the Canadiens were able to get assets back for them. Also gone is Devante Smith-Pelly, who scored a goal in his last game with the Canadiens, thanks to the efforts of Michael McCarron, who collected his first career NHL point.
Half of the regular defensive roster is sidelined with injuries, so it will be tough to expect a big contribution from the back end. We’ll get a real chance to see what the kids can do this week, which features a back-to-back against the Ducks and the Kings starting tonight.
