The Montreal Canadiens have recalled Nikita Scherbak and Michael McCarron from the AHL

The Montreal Canadiens have recalled both Nikita Scherbak and Michael McCarron from the Laval Rocket of the AHL.

Both players were scratched from the Rocket’s game this afternoon against the Providence Bruins, suggesting that this move was a possibility. The Habs had one slot available on the 23-man roster after Mark Streit’s contract was terminated. It’s not yet known how the second one opened up, but the most likely possibility is that Ales Hemsky has been placed on the Injured Reserve list after being injured in Anaheim.

Scherbak has been one of the top producers in the AHL, with nine points — eight of them assists — in six games. McCarron has added four points in that time.

The players could both be in the Canadiens’ lineup when the team hosts the Florida Panthers on Tuesday night.
