The Vegas Golden had enjoyed some quick starts to their post-season series in the team’s inaugural season. In their first ever playoff game, they opened the scoring 3:23 into the first period, and hung on for a 1-0 win. Versus the San Jose Sharks, their first goal came 4:31 in, as they proceeded to reel off two more in the next 90 seasons, coasting to a 7-0 victory.
In the first matchup of the Western Conference Final, the tables were turned. Dustin Byfuglien beat Marc-Andre Fleury just 1:05 into the game, and the home side raced out to a 3-0 lead before the eight-minute mark. The Golden Knights had a pushback, adding a fe goals of their own before the night came to an end, but were unable to recover from the Jets’ opening salvo, and trail in a post-season series for the first time in their history.
How the team can respond to their first real bit of adversity, and how much of a killer instinct Mark Scheifele and the Jets can have as they look to earn a berth in the Stanley Cup Final will be the question for Game Two of the series.
