There’s no doubt about it: the Canadiens need to add more prospects to their rather shallow pool. Thankfully, Marc Bergevin and Trevor Timmins will start to restock the cupboard tonight during the 2017 NHL Entry Draft.
The Montreal Canadiens currently own the 25th overall pick. We’ve compiled a list of mock drafts, singling out which player the Canadiens are slated to take.
Urho Vaakanainen
Connor Timmins
Robert Thomas
Isaac Ratcliffe
Maxime Comtois
Josh Norris
Jason Robertson
Michael Rasmussen
Kailer Yamamoto
Shane Bowers
Due to relatively poor draft position, there’s no real consensus on whom the Canadiens should select. Vaakanainen, Bowers, Timmins, and Ratcliffe are some of the most common picks.
As for prospect rankings, once again we see a variety players ranked 25th.
- Kole Lind (Hockey Prospect)
- Nicolas Hague (Bob McKenzie)
- Josh Norris (Craig Button)
- Robert Thomas (Jeff Marek)
- Callan Foote (Corey Pronman, Future Considerations)
- Lias Andersson (ISS)/
As you may remember, EOTP ended up picking Urho Vaakanainen in the SB Nation Mock draft, although the votes were split between the Finnish defender and hulking forward Isaac Ratcliffe.
Essentially, there’s little to no consensus in the rankings or mock drafts this year beyond the first few picks, which means it should be an exciting draft for everyone involved, including the Canadiens. The Habs also own the 56th and 58th overall picks, giving them ample ammo to pay their way down the draft if the opportunity presents itself.
