The Habs opened the scoring 2:51 into the first period, with the fourth line finding a hole in the Jackets’ defensive fabric. The Habs were looking like the better team in the first period, out-skating and out-chancing the Blue Jackets It looked as though the Habs would close out the period up by one goal, but with under three minutes left in the first period, Nick Foligno tied it on a wraparound. Moments later Alexei Emelin was expelled from the game and given a five-minute major penalty for interference on Matt Calvert (watch the replay here). The Habs killed the first two minutes of the penalty, but will be down a defenseman the rest of the game.
