Montreal Canadiens to host 2020 NHL Draft

The NHL Draft is coming back to Montreal. Today, the league’s board of governors officially approved that the 2020 Entry Draft will be held at the Bell Centre.

The last time the Canadiens hosted the draft was in 2009 when the team took Louis Leblanc in the first round. John Tavares was the first overall pick and current Canadien Tomas Tatar was a second round pick. Nicolas Deslauriers was also drafted in the 2009 draft.

Montreal hosted the draft from 1963-1984 before it started rotating to various cities. This will be the fifth time that the city is hosting the draft since 1985.

One of the top prospects in the 2020 Draft is Alexis Lafreniere, who was born just North of Montreal in Sainte-Eustache and will have the spotlight firmly on him. Other top prospects include Lucas Raymond from Sweden and Finland’s Anton Lundell, among others in what is expected to be a strong draft class.
