Canadiens vs. Capitals third period thread

The Canadiens might just hand the Capitals their second loss in their past ten games.

Tomas Fleischmann padded the Habs’ lead to three goals just under two minutes into the second period by pounding slapshot off a rebound past a screened Braden Holtby.Holtby was pulled after the goal, Phillip Grubauer coming into the net in his place. Victor Bartlet earned his first point as a Hab on the goal.

Condon was finally beat, five and a half minutes into the second period off a Caps’ offensive zone faceoff won by Mike Richards, which allowed the Caps to throw the puck on net and for Jason Chimera to pot home the rebound to put the Caps on the board.

Brendan Gallagher had a chance on a penalty shot, but couldn’t beat Grubauer, who held of Gallagher’s patient shot with a low glove. Moments later the Habs hopped on a turnover and Alex Galchenyuk ended the play by scoring his second goal of the game off a beautiful pass from Lars Eller.

Mike Condon made an incredible save to keep the score 4-1, stopping Mike Richard with the butt end of his stick. Lars Eller jumped on the resulting rebound and took the puck down the ice for a breakaway and ended up knocking over Philip Grubauer after missing the net and was assessed a goalie interference penalty. Mike Condon stood on his head to kill the disadvantage.

Well… it’s too bad the Habs can’t play like this every night.
