Canadiens vs. Lightning second period thread

Alex Galchenyuk drew to within one from reaching the thirty-goal milestone after Brendan Gallagher forechecked free a puck from behind the net as he beat Andrei Vasilevsky to the puck and centered Galchenyuk who fired it into an open net.

The Habe led 6-5 in shots on net at the ten-minute mark, with shot attempts tied at twelve for both teams. The Habs drew a penalty at the twelve-thirty minute mark of the first period, with Alex Killorn sent off for hooking. The powerplay yielded two shots attempts and one shot on goal.

Greg Pateryn nudged roughly into Tyler Johnson from behind just after the whistle and sent him sprawling into the boards with just over four minutes left in the period. Johnson looked to have hurt his left shoulder and Pateryn was assessed a five minute major and ten minute misconduct on the play.

The Lightning were assessed a roughing penalty as well, so it was four on four. Lars Eller broke up the ice and found Tomas Plekanec making a parallel entry into the Lightning zone uncovered and found him with a pass so he could deke around Vasilevsky to put the Habs up 2-0.

Alex Killorn took a hook penalty while the Lightning were on the powerplay, so it will be four on four to start the second period. Alex Galchenyuk came within an inch of registering his 30th goal with under ten seconds left int he first period. He’ll have forty minutes to get it done…
