Canadiens vs. Flyers second period thread

The Habs opened up an early lead, with Dale Weise scoring 2:56 into the first by banking it off a Flyers’ defender from behind the net. P.K Subban got an assist on the play, not taking long to put his name on the scoresheet. Andrei Markov, who drew the primary assist on the goal, made Canadiens‘ history by tying Bobby Rousseau for 21st all-time in points (522).

Ten seconds later, the Flyers took the Canadiens zone, and Nick Cousins shot a weak, wobbly shot that beat Condon high to tie it 1-1.

Fans at the Bell Centre were chanting “P.K.” most, if not every single time he touched the puck. Michel Therrien never touched the puck, so it’s unknown how the crowd would have reacted in his case.

The Habs went to the powerplay with around five minutes left in the first period, but it wasn’t pretty. The Habs failed to set up in the Flyers’ zone and made some very disorganized breakout attempts that were prevented by the Flyers’ neutral zone trap.

Sven Andrighetto was charged with hooking with less than two minutes to go in the first period. The Habs did well to defend the Flyers’ powerplay, not allowing them to set up at all, and will have 28 seconds of penalty kill time left to deal with to start the second period.

The Habs were outchanced 7-1 in the first period, with their only chance coming from Dale Weise’s goal from behind the Flyers’ net.
