The first five minutes of the second period we’re played pretty tightly, with only five total shot attempts, 3-2 in favour of the Oilers.
The Oilers drew a penalty, with Devante Smith Pelly getting called for an elbow on Eric Gryba. Zack Kassian came to the defense of his teammate, resulting in coincidental roughing minors for Kassian and Smith-Pelly. Ben Scrivens stood tall on the subsequent Oilers’ powerplay, and beyond once it was five on five again.
The goalie’s strong work would for the third time translate into a Canadiens‘ goal. Tomas Plekanec put the Habs up 3-0 with just over eight minutes left in the second period. Next, P.K. Subban took a cross-ice pass from Tomas Plekanec as they pressed into the Edmonton zone to put the Canadiens up 4-0.
This is the biggest lead the Habs have had in a very long time. So far back, I couldn’t find it in time to post this thread before the intermission ended. They will start the third period on the powerplay as Zack Kassian roughed up Ben Scrivens after the second period had ended.
