Another defensive turnover by the Habs allowed Cam Atkinson to backhand-whip home his second goal of the game to give the Blue Jackets the lead, 2-1. If that wasn’t bad enough news, Daniel Carr was reported as having left the game permanently due to an upper body injury.
Max Pacioretty took a slashing penalty 4:45 into the second period, giving the Jackets a chance to pad their lead and get their dreaded third goal of the game. Mike Condon robbed Cam Atkinson, who broke out of the corner again and almost wrapped it into the open side of the net if not for Condon’s outstretched pad.
P.K. Subban drew the Habs even on a blast from center ice that Joonas Korpisalo probably should have stopped. P.K. got sent to the box for shoving Brandon Dubinsky after scoring as Dubinsky skated by talking trash. Andrei Markov recorded his 406th career assist on the goal, tying Guy Lapointe for second all-time among Canadiens‘ defensemen.
Ryan Murray was assessed a minor penalty for closing his hand on the puck with less than thirty second remaining in the second period, giving the Habs a powerplay to start the third period.
