The Habs came out stronger to start the second period, leading the Flames in possession 6-1 in shot attempts by the first commercial timeout. The Flames added to their lead with just under a minute left in the second period, with Sean Monahan left completely alone in front of the net with four Habs players around him, but unchallenged, Monahan deflected a slap-pass from the point the put his team up 2-0.
