Canadiens vs. Coyotes second period thread

The Habs gave up an early lead, less than five minutes into the first period, with Martin Hanzal redirecting a shot from the point by Michael Stone. Mike Condon was completely screened on the shot, which was the Coyotes‘ third of the game to that point.

Jacob de la Rose showed some serious poise, carrying the puck from the offensive blue-lin, along the boards then behind the Coyotes net before leaving a perfectly tricky drop pass for Dale Weise who only had to tap it into a wide open net for his thirteenth goal of the season.

The Habs continued to build on their possession, halting the Coyotes for long periods of time from controlling the play – as long as six minutes before David Desharnais was sent off for goalie interference.

The Coyotes regained the lead on their sixth shot on net and eleventh shot attempt of the game. Anthony Duclair finished a rebound after the Habs failed to clear the zone on the penalty-kill, and with Alexei Emelin hurting on the play and out of position, Duclair had a clear path to the net on the rebound and made no mistake.

Despite firing off eleven shot attempts, the Habs only had four shots on net in the first period, which is not exactly a convincing tally for a team desperate to stay in the playoff hunt.
