Pezzetta was a restricted free-agent. The contract will pay him $750,000 in the NHL and $82,500 in the AHL — a slight increase over what he would get with his entry-level contract.
The 23-year-old is a high-energy forward who has progressed every year at the AHL level with the Laval Rocket. In 107 career AHL games, he has 10 goals and nine assists but in this past season, he had two goals and three assists in 20 games.
Pezzetta is 6’1”, 205 lbs and was a sixth-round selection (160th overall) in the 2016 NHL Draft.
He still has work to do to get to the NHL, but it’s clear the organization has liked his growth and style of play over the last few years. He is a perfect player to have around in the AHL, who can eat up bottom-six minutes and stand up for teammates.
