Montreal Canadiens sign Martin Lapointe to contract extension

Minutes before the team’s home opener, the Montreal Canadiens have announced that they have signed Martin Lapointe to a contract extension.

The contract extension will go from the 2021-22 season to 2023-24. Lapointe will also add the role of director of amateur scouting to his duties.

He will remain the director of player personnel. Hired as the Canadiens’ director of player development in 2012, Lapointe enjoyed a 16-year NHL career during which he was a member of four teams before becoming a professional scout for the Chicago Blackhawks in 2009. He was promoted to director of player personnel in the summer of 2017.

Shane Churla was the team’s previous director of amateur scouting. Churla left his role at the end of his contract to join the Florida Panthers organization.

Trevor Timmins remains in his role the team’s assistant general manager. This is the latest move as the team restructures their scouting system.
