The Montreal Canadiens have sent defenceman Mattias Norlinder and forward Emil Heineman to the Laval Rocket on Monday morning, solidifying their 23-player roster to open the season.

This comes a day after they placed Gustav Lindström and Joel Armia on waivers, and should they clear they will likely also be sent to the Rocket. Norlinder and Heineman had very good showings at training camp and should be high on the list should the team need to recall a player from the Laval Rocket.

This means that Justin Barron will be on the opening night roster, as part of the seven defenders on the roster joining Mike Matheson, David Savard, Johnathan Kovacevic, Jordan Harris, Arber Xhekaj, and Kaiden Guhle.

At forward, the team will have Nick Suzuki, Cole Caufield, Rafaël Harvey-Pinard, Kirby Dach, Alex Newhook, Josh Anderson, Jake Evans, Jesse Ylönen, Juraj Slafkovský, Tanner Pearson, Sean Monahan, Brendan Gallagher, and Michael Pezzetta.

The team will also carry three goalies: Samuel Montembeault, Jake Allen, and Cayden Primeau.

The team will open their season on Wednesday night in Toronto against the Toronto Maple Leafs. Teams have until 5:00 p.m. on Monday to get under the salary cap and 23-player roster limit.
