Montreal Canadiens recall nine players for post-season

The Montreal Canadiens have announced that nine players have been recalled from the Laval Rocket for the post-season.

The four forwards recalled are Alex Belzile, Laurent Dauphin, Lukas Vejdemo, and Jesse Ylönen. The three defencemen are Otto Leskinen, Cale Fleury, and Xavier Ouellet. Goaltenders Cayden Primeau and Michael McNiven were also recalled.

All players except McNiven have at least one game of NHL experience.

Some of the players will join the main practice group, but others will skate with Rocket head coach Joël Bouchard and assistant coach Daniel Jacob to stay ready in case they are needed for the NHL playoffs.

Ouellet, as an example, skated with the Canadiens at practice on Tuesday. The Rocket finished their season on Monday. They were the champions of the Canadian division. The “Black Aces” has long been the original taxi squad, which was used for the regular season this year due to COVID-19 precautions.

Other extra bodies the Canadiens have are Michael Frolik, and Charlie Lindgren who were already on the NHL roster.
