Montreal Canadiens recall Gustav Olofsson to taxi squad

The Montreal Canadiens have recalled Gustav Olofsson to the taxi squad on Friday.

The Swedish defenceman has been away from the Laval Rocket because he left to be with his fiancée for the birth of his son on March 13. With the Rocket on a two-week road trip in Western Canada, this will allow Olofsson to travel and practice with the Canadiens.

Olofsson has completed his seven-day quarantine, and joined the team on the ice at Friday’s morning skate. This means that his quarantine was because he left the team’s bubble and did not undergo the required testing.

There is also the chance that Olofsson, who was off to a good start with the Rocket in the AHL, will be an option to enter the Canadiens lineup. With Ben Chiarot injured, interim head coach Dominique Ducharme has tried both Victor Mete and Xavier Ouellet on the third pair.

Olofsson has one goal and four assists in 10 AHL games this season.
