Montreal Canadiens recall Dale Weise

The Montreal Canadiens have recalled Dale Weise from the Laval Rocket.

Weise has three goals and four assists in 27 games in the American Hockey League this year. He scored the shootout winner on Tuesday night against the Belleville Senators.

The Weise recall could be for several reasons. Riley Barber has played nine games and one more would mean he would need to go on waivers. We should expect to see him sent to the AHL as a result. Brendan Gallagher also left Tuesday’s game with an upper-body injury which means that the team would be down to 11 healthy forwards if they didn’t add Weise and Barber goes down as expected if Gallagher can’t go.

Weise has had an up and down season for the Rocket, and has dealt with injuries. He had a 10-game streak without a point earlier in the season. He had ben playing on a line with Michael McCarron and Yannick Veilleux the last few games.

The Canadiens will have a morning skate before their game on Thursday against the Tampa Bay Lightning and we should know more then.
