Montreal Canadiens Prospect Roundup 7

Sweden

Name League Team Timeline Games Goals Assists Points
Sebastian Collberg Elitserien Frölunda Last Week 3 1 0 1
Total 33 6 3 9
World Juniors Sweden Last Week 0 0 0 0
Total 6 4 2 6
Allsvenskan Örebro HK
Last Week 0 0 0 0
Total 15 6 2 8

Slump busted! It was a long time coming, as Collberg went from January 25th to February 28th without a point, but he scored a goal on the last day of February. Maybe now his coach will decide to give him a little bit of ice time. Ah who are we kidding? It’s almost as if Collberg did himself a disservice by scoring in the shootout so often, he’s too valuable to send down, but his coach refuses to play him.

Magnus Nygren Elitserien Färjestads Last Week 2 0 1 1
Total 48 12 16 28

Nygren with another assist in just two games on the week. Luckily not all Swedish clubs are mishandling Canadiens prospects. Nygren gets top minutes for Färjestads and has been playing so well that Hockey’s Future bumped him into the Habs’ top 20 prospects for the first time.

Name League Team Timeline Games Goals Assists Points
Erik Nystrom Super Elit U20 Modo U20 Last Week 0 0 0 0
Total 22 8 16 24
Allsvenskan Karlskrona HK Last Week 3 2 1 3
Total 22 5 6 11

Nystrom seems to have adjusted well to the Allsvenskan, bringing his scoring up to a half point per game. To give some context into how well the 6th round pick is playing, Collberg was just over a half point per game in the same league, and we know how talented he is. Every week I’m impressed by what I hear about Nystrom. He just won’t fade away.

Daniel Pribyl Czech Extraliga Sparta Praha Last Week 2 1 0 1
Total 40 12 10 22

Pribyl now has 11 points in his last 10 games, doubling up the 11 that he totalled in the first 30 games of the season. This is the kind of production Pribyl is capable of with his talent, we’ll see how long he can keep it up.

Brady Vail OHL Windsor Spitfires Last Week 2 1 2 3
Total 61 18 31 49

An offensive week for Vail with over a point per game is his first in quite awhile. Soon he should cross the 20 goal and 50 point marks on the season, although he has just 1 goal in 8 games. It should be noted that while Vail has improved his points per game a tiny bit, his goal scoring is behind where it was last year. Luckily it’s the defensive work that we’re looking for from him, and by all counts his play there is fantastic.

Olivier Archambault QMJHL Drumm. Volitgeurs
Last Week 3 2 2 4
Total 58 27 32 59

Over a point per game now after spending quite a long time below that threshold, Archambault is finishing the season strong. He has 16 points in his last 11 games, including 7 goals. He has made new career highs for himself in goals and points, while needing just one more assist to tie his career high there. This has also been the healthiest season of Archambault’s career, so maybe there’s something there.

Charles Hudon QMJHL Chicoutimi Last Week 4 1 2 3
Total 51 29 35 64

Hudon’s point streak ended this week at 5 games, over which time he accrued 12 points. He’s gone two games without a point now, so expect him to be hungry and put up a big show for next week.

Darren Dietz WHL Saskatoon Blades Last Week 4 1 1 2
Total 65 20 28 48

Dietz couldn’t keep his hot streak going this week, but a half point per game is pretty good for going ‘cold’. His play of late may result in the Canadiens signing him to an entry level contract soon, which he would clearly deserve. In spite of not collecting all the points, Dietz managed a +7 rating in 4 games this week.

Dalton Thrower WHL Saskatoon Blades Last Week 4 1 1 2
Total 50 5 20 25

Thrower is staying steady at a half point per game, and his defensive work looks pretty solid from his +20 rating. He hasn’t shown much improvement offensively though.

Tim Bozon WHL Kamloops Blazers Last Week 3 0 2 2
Total 62 32 47 79

A scout recently commented on Bozon that he’s a natural goal scorer, but sometimes thinks he’s a playmaker, and that’s when his play deteriorates and he gets himself into trouble. Looking at Bozon’s last 11 games where he has just 1 goals and 7 assists, it seems we’re in one of those streaks. The Canadiens will have to work with Bozon in teaching him to shoot first.

Mac Bennett NCAA Michigan Last Week 2 0 0 0

Nothing to report on Bennett from a point perspective, as he’s cooled off a bit now with no points in 3 games. He is a +4 over that time though, which brings him out of the negatives on the year.

Danny Kristo NCAA North Dakota Last Week 2 1 2 3

Kristo’s point streak lives on at 8 games, but his streak of a goal and an assist every game dies at four. Check out this video of Kristo and his teammates talking about what life is like playing hockey at UND.

Mark MacMillan NCAA North Dakota Last Week 2 3 3 6
Total 33 12 12 24

MacMillan has had enough of his cold streak and absolutely exploded offensively in his last two games. It doesn’t totally make up for his 10 games of struggling, but another couple games like that would essentially erase it. Let’s see what he can do.
