Catching the Torch: Solid week for Addison, Evans and Audette

The Juniors Report

The Montreal Canadiens currently feature prospects playing in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL), the Ontario Hockey League (OHL), the Western Hockey League (WHL), the USHL (United States Hockey League) and the NCAA (National Collegiate Athletic Association). These leagues can be considered the primary conduit towards professional hockey in North America.

Here’s how the players in the aforementioned leagues performed last week:

Jeremiah Addison: It was a short but efficient week for the Ottawa 67’s forward. Addison collected two assists in his first game, a 4-3 shootout win over the Oshawa Generals. He scored a goal in his next game, a 3-1 loss to the Saginaw Spirit. His tally versus Saginaw brought him even with his previous season’s mark of 19 goals in the season, reaching it in 19 fewer games versus last year.

Daniel Audette: It was an even offensive week for the Sherbrooke Phoenix forward. He went scoreless in his first game, a 3-2 overtime loss to the Victoriaville Tigres. He scored a goal and assist in the next game, as Sherbrooke routed the Moncton Wildcats 7-1. He ended the week as the man of the match, scoring the overtime game-winning goal in a 1-0 victory over the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada.

Simon Bourque: The Rimouski Oceanic captain continues to be his team’s ace for offensive contributions from the back end. He went without a point in his first game, a 3-1 loss to the Baie-Comeau Drakkar. He scored a goal in the next game which saw a better result in a rematch versus Baie-Comeau that saw Rimouski blank them 5-0. He ended his week marking an assist in a 2-0 win over the Chicoutimi Sagueneens. Bourque leads all defenders on Rimosuki with 33 points in 45 games, which is 19 more than his closest teammate.

Matt Bradley: The scoring issues that have plagued much of Bradley’s year seem to have returned. He went without a point in his first game, an 8-2 loss to the Victoria Royals. He marked an assist in the following game, a 4-1 loss to the Vancouver Giants. He ended the week scoreless once more in a 4-0 loss to the Kelowna Rockets.

Noah Juulsen: The slow offensive season for the Everett Silvertips blueliner does not appear to be changing in a positive direction. He went without a point in his first two games, a 2-1 win over the Kamloops Blazers, and a 1-0 shutout loss to the Edmonton Oil Kings. He marked an assist in his last game of the week, a 4-1 loss to the Red Deer Rebels. His 0.45 points per game average notably trails his previous season, and career high mark of 0.76 in the WHL.

Jake Evans: It was another productive week for the University of Notre Dame forward. Evans opened the weekend scoring a goal in his first game, a 5-1 win over the University of New Hampshire. He marked an assist in the following game, a 3-2 win in a rematch versus New Hampshire. Evans is currently second in scoring on Notre Dame with 25 points in 25 games.

Nikolas Koberstein: There were no games for Koberstein this past week due to a break in the University of Alaska Fairbanks schedule.

Hayden Hawkey: Hawkey did not start for Providence College for either of the team’s games this past weekend.

Michael McNiven: It was a short and unremarkable week for McNiven as he started only one of his team’s games. In his only start, he allowed 4 goals on 34 shots in a 5-2 loss to the Kitchener Rangers. McNiven’s .908 save percentage ranks him 11th among OHL goaltenders.
