The Montreal Canadiens officially started the on-ice sessions at training camp today, and there was some good and bad news before they even took the ice.
Martin Reway, who has admitted trouble with conditioning and missed the last day of rookie camp, was back in uniform on Friday.

Meanwhile, Jeremiah Addison’s professional debut will have to wait. The winger, who was part of the Memorial Cup champions and had a great tournament, will undergo shoulder surgery and is out indefinitely.
Only injured player at Canadiens camp : Jeremiah Addison – shoulder injury, surgery expected next week – out indefinitely.

The team also released the three teams for practices. As usual the third team is comprised of solely minor league players and try outs. These players are usually among the first to be sent to minor league camp.
Of note, Shea Weber and David Schlemko are on different teams, and on Team B, the potential partners for Weber are Jordie Benn, Joe Morrow or Brandon Davidson with other expected minor leaguers alongside.
It will be interesting to see how the line rushes shake out. Of course, it is still very early and it could mean very little.
Alex Galchenyuk doesn’t seem like he will be playing with Max Pacioretty and Jonathan Drouin but notably Ales Hemsky and Artturi Lehkonen are on that team. It looks for the time being that Phillip Danault could be playing with Brendan Gallagher.

We have the first lines from training camp and Team A.
Des trios. Des trios. On s’ennuyait.
Galchenyuk-Danault-Gallagher
JDLR-McCarron-Reway
Grégoire-Audette-Froese
Byron-Mitchell-Shaw— J-F Chaumont (@JFChaumontJDM) September 15, 2017
Of note, Paul Byron with Torrey Mitchell and Andrew Shaw seems like it could seemingly be a line that could start the season, while Jacob de la Rose with Michael McCarron and Martin Reway would be a pretty fun line in Laval.
On defence, Karl Alzner’s first partner with the Habs was Jeff Petry.
Défenseurs du groupe A:
Alzner-Petry
Jerabek-Lernout
Parisi-Redmond
Schlemko-Juulsen

Jakub Jerabek is practicing with Brett Lernout for now, while Noah Juulsen is getting an NHL partner in David Schlemko while try out Eric Gelinas is rotating.
For Team B, Charles Hudon will get a chance on the wing with Tomas Plekanec and Artturi Lehkonen. Ales Hemsky gets the coveted RW spot next to Max Pacioretty and Jonathan Drouin.
On defence, there’s a surprise on the left of Shea Weber: 19 year-old Victor Mete.

This is probably more to get Mete some experience than him having a chance to make the team, but it’s interesting nonetheless as it gives us a look at what the team sees Mete becoming.
