Montreal Canadiens defenceman Christian Folin joined Habsent Minded for a discussion about how arriving to Montreal affected him. Having asked for a trade weeks before from Philadelphia, it turned into very special birthday when Folin got a telephone call from Canadiens general manager Marc Bergevin.
Arriving in Montreal and adjusting to the team was easy as everyone gets along and there is no groupings within the team, the shock was more the fact that Folin was recognized when out in the city immediately. The knowledge and interest the fans has is incredible and now it is up to Folin to learn some French.
Folin discusses Brendan Gallagher: “He probably smiles most on the team besides [Andrew] Shaw,” he said. “They love working hard and I think it sets the standard for the whole team. You see a guy with 30 goals working on a backcheck in practice, it’s building your team every day. They’re a hungry team. They want to win.”
In an honest and open conversation, Folin describes different things from growing up near Gothenburg, his own passion to teach hockey, how playing in front of Carey Price changes a defender’s game and role, how far away Montreal Canadiens is from being a Cup contender, and the fact that he wants to bring the Stanley Cup to his native Kungsbacka (a Gothenburg suburb).
