Montreal Canadiens place Kenny Agostino and Michael Chaput on waivers

With the regular season closing in, the Montreal Canadiens came closer to finalizing their opening-night roster, barring any other transactions. That included placing AHL star Kenny Agostino and veteran Michael Chaput on waivers for the purpose of assigning them to the Laval Rocket.

Agostino and Chaput were originally signed as AHL depth, but their performances during the pre-season put them on the NHL radar, and made the decisions difficult for Claude Julien and the rest of the Canadiens coaching staff.

They should be major contributors for the Rocket if they clear waivers.

The Canadiens also sent Charlie Lindgren to Laval and now have 28 players in camp including their four injured players. They still have to make a decision on the final roster spot, which will likely come down to Simon Despres, Nikita Scherbak, and Jacob de la Rose.

If Despres stays in the NHL, he would require a contract as he is currently in camp on a professional tryout.
