Montreal Canadiens home opener to be against Detroit Red Wings

The Montreal Canadiens will open their home season on October 10 against the Detroit Red Wings.

It will be only the eighth time the Habs will host the Wings for a home opener, with the last one coming all the way back in 1970-71. Last year, they opened the season at home against the Los Angeles Kings.

The Canadiens, as is tradition because of events at the Bell Centre, will start the season on the road on October 3 against the Carolina Hurricanes where they will hope to delay the first Storm Surge of the year. This year, a series of Celine Dion concerts is forcing the Canadiens on the road.

The rest of the NHL schedule should be announced Tuesday. The NHL Draft starts Friday with the first round and finishes on Saturday with rounds 2-7. Earlier this week, the NHL announced that the 2020 Draft will be in Montreal.
