The Montreal Canadiens are shaking up their centre position with a pair of moves on Thursday. The team claimed Colin White off waivers from the Pittsburgh Penguins and placed Brandon Gignac on waivers with the intention of assigning him back to the Laval Rocket.

White has no points in 11 NHL games this season. He had five goals and five assists in 21 games with the Wilkes Barre-Scranton Penguins in the AHL. White, 27, was drafted in the first round by the Ottawa Senators in 2015. His agent used to be current Canadiens general manager Kent Hughes.

The 6’1″, 194 lb centre has 303 career NHL games with 44 goals and 69 assists. The team is clearly looking to see if he could provide depth to the organization. He is in the last year of his contract and is an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season.

Gignac played seven games with the Canadiens, scoring one goal – his first in the NHL. With his contract status, the team is likely hoping he will be able to help the Laval Rocket in their playoff push where he was the team’s leading scorer.
