Canadiens @ Hurricanes Top Six Minutes: Couldn’t weather the storm

For our new readers and members, the Top Six Minutes is a continuation of the discussion in the game thread. We try to keep it light and entertaining. Full recaps are up the morning after every game.

Sunday night. Habs vs. Hurricanes. One of the most important games of the year. Who’da thunkit?

First Period

  • Excellent start with a few chances right off the hop
  • High-energy and both goaltenders looking superb so far
  • You can’t tell both of these teams played yesterday – great pace
  • Weber takes a tripping call as Aho made a run for the net
  • Mete blocks a shot and winces as he heads for the bench
  • Penalty killed off ** finger guns **
  • Icing call number 301482083
  • Price slaps Benn with his stick so he moves tf out of the way. Kids these days. No respect for their superiors.
  • Teravainen loses the puck and Gallagher sends it over to Byron who knocks it home – BOOM, Habs up 1-0 (but in reality, the Canes are dominating)
  • Habs up 1-0 at the end of 20/

Second Period

  • Oh look, another icing call
  • Faulk loses the puck to Armia who sends it over to Kotkaniemi but no dice
  • How did that stay out…HOW..man alive it could be a three goal game by now
  • Habs moving the puck well
  • Power play? Nah. We good.
  • Gallagher in Wallmark’s face after the whistle. I love that little sh*t disturber
  • Carolina still without a SOG
  • Took about 15 minutes for the Hurricanes to get their first shot on Price. I am ok with this
  • Habs still up by one after 40 and owned the Canes that period. More of that, please/

Third Period

  • Okay sweet baby Habs, let’s finish this thing
  • Price saves the day on an Aho breakaway
  • Carolina gets a power play on a high stick from Weal – Canes cannot set anything up and the fans start booing. We know what that’s like, friends
  • Price with a few amazing saves
  • Teravainen on the breakaway and Price tracks it the whole time, forcing the Cane towards the post
  • Carolina ties the game
  • This game is heading to OT/

Overtime

  • We are going to get at least one point, so that’s good
  • Blue Jackets fans watching this and having an absolute fit
  • Canes take this one and the Habs take to the ice again on Tuesday/

Highlight of the night

A great display of how focused Price was this evening:

EOTP 3 Stars

3) He was at his best tonight

2) It sure felt like it

1) Another important part of the game other than the three points doled out
