The Habs got off to a strong start, recording eight shot attempts and four shots on net before the five-minute mark of the first period. The Habs spent the most part of the first period buzzing around the Bruins‘ zone, and came close to gaining a 1-0 lead a number of times if not for this team’s inability to put home a goal like it wasn’t as hard as finding a single unified theory of physics.
After a while, the Canadiens regressed and the Bruins took control of the game, and took advantage of the Habs’ inability to convert shot attempts into goals. After Mike Condon stopped Max Talbot on a clear-cut breakaway, Andrei Markov gave the puck back to Talbot on probably the worst turnover in his career, and an unmarked Talbot roofed the puck to give the Bruins a 1-0 lead.
The Habs had a good period, but trail 1-0 heading into the second. They’ll start the second period on the powerplay, as Brendan Gallagher drew a slashing penalty from Kevan Miller with 25 seconds remaining in the first period.
