Michael Frolik and Corey Perry placed on waivers by the Montreal Canadiens

A day after placing nine players on waivers, today the Montreal Canadiens added Michael Frolik and Corey Perry to the list.

Frolik and Perry can now be claimed by another NHL team if they can fit either one onto the NHL roster.

Frolik was signed on December 23, and Perry was signed on December 28 to matching $750,000, one-year contracts prior to the team’s training camp.

The Habs clearly wanted to see what would happen with the players they submitted to waivers Sunday before making this move that could potentially lead to the loss of a role player. Since not enough salary was lost from yesterday’s group, the team needed to make a riskier move today.

If either player is claimed, they will have to be placed on the claiming team’s active roster.

They will learn by noon on Tuesday whether Frolik and Perry have cleared or not, and can finalize the roster and taxi squad then for the start of the season on Wednesday night.
