The King Clancy award is presented annually to the NHL player who best represents leadership on and off the ice, and has made a significant contribution to the community. It is a team-voted award, and this year the Canadiens have nominated their captain, Max Pacioretty.

Pacioretty is a fine choice for the nomination, as his work in establishing a foundation in his own name with the Montreal General Hospital has been commendable. The goal of that foundation is to raise money in support of the traumatic brain injury project, purchasing equipment to facilitate the work being done by Montreal’s medical community.
I take no issue with the nomination, but it is hard to ignore the massive commitment that P.K. Subban made earlier this year. He pledged a total of $10 million to the Montreal Children’s Hospital, so one could make the argument that he would be an even better choice as the team’s nominee. Especially when you consider he kept a positive attitude throughout the toughest season in recent memory, and provided essential leadership for the team.
Regardless, Pacioretty is still a great choice, and he definitely deserves the nod from his teammates.
