“A small genius on the ice”: Martin Bakos praises the game of World Championship linemate Martin Réway

With the group stage of the Champions Hockey League starting the competitive season in Europe, teams travel and players normally out of reach becomes reachable.

Bili Tygri (the White Tigers) of Liberec is one of those clubs touring the continent, allowing hockey fans to see their players in action.

Players such as Martin Bakos.

Having played in the KHL for Kunlun Red Star the previous season, one could strike up an interesting conversation no matter the situation, but having been part of a line with Marko Dano and Martin Réway in the 2016 World Championship in Russia makes Bakos an easy choice for an Eyes On The Prize interview. We caught up with him prior to his game against the Växjö Lakers.

Having apologized for his English a couple of times, he touched on his experience in China and sharing the ice with Sergey Mozyakin before turning his attention to Réway.

Bakos praises the Montreal Canadiens prospect and his enormous natural talent, calling him “a small genius on the ice.” He says that when playing with Réway, he can “just wait for a good pass to hit the one-timer.”

Bakos believes that if Réway has recovered from his condition he will be a lock as an NHL player in the future, predicting that his different skill set will be an asset versus the bigger defenders.
